Venus of the Sea
This piece was inspired in The Birth of Venus (1486) by Sandro Botticelli, a painting that always comes to my mind when I am thinking about the sea. But instead of a goddess, I used a brass mermaid as a central motive. The mermaid is surrounded by embroidered farfalle glass beads, creating a medallion that is attached through glass shell beads and fresh water pearls to a copper chain with 7×5.9mm scalloped shell charms. The copper chain is 17″ around, an the total length including the pendant is 13″. The earrings are 2 inches long.
